FEEDING OBSERVATIONS OF THE ECUADORIAN MILKSNAKE, Lampropeltis micropholis (SQUAMATA: COLUBRIDAE)

Resumen

Reportamos los primeros registros documentados de intentos de depredación de Lampropeltis micropholis sobre un murciélago de la familia Vespertilionidae y lagarto del grupo Cnemidophorus lemniscatus en Colombia. En el primer evento, un juvenil intentó ingerir un murciélago sin éxito, probablemente debido a una limitación impuesta por la relación entre el tamaño de la presa y la apertura bucal (gape) de la serpiente. En el segundo evento, otro juvenil consumió exitosamente un lagarto en Villanueva, Santander, mostrando un proceso de ingestión eficiente probablemente favorecido por el cuerpo alargado y esbelto de la presa. Estos registros amplían el conocimiento actual sobre la dieta de L. micropholis y subrayan la importancia de la ciencia ciudadana para documentar interacciones ecológicas y hábitos alimenticios poco conocidos en serpientes.
