RANGE EXTENSION AND UPDATED DISTRIBUTION OF THE OAK FOREST SKINK Plestiodon lynxe (SQUAMATA: SCINCIDAE)

Resumen

Esta nota documenta nuevos registros costeros de Plestiodon lynxe en la región del Golfo de México, ampliando el rango altitudinal y espacial conocido de la especie hasta el nivel del mar y confirmando su presencia en ambientes tropicales de tierras bajas. El encuentro de una hembra grávida a inicios del verano en Tuxpan, Veracruz, demuestra viviparidad en poblaciones costeras y sugiere la retención de rasgos reproductivos típicamente asociados con hábitats montanos. Estos hallazgos plantean interrogantes sobre la plasticidad ecológica y los orígenes evolutivos de las poblaciones costeras. Se requieren estudios comparativos sobre fenología reproductiva y rasgos morfológicos a lo largo de gradientes altitudinales para evaluar la posible influencia de las condiciones ambientales en las estrategias de historia de vida. Además, la posibilidad de que las poblaciones costeras representen un taxón distinto merece ser investigada dentro de un marco filogenético y taxonómico.
