Abstract

We addressed the biological principles in ecological niche modelling, considering some aspects of the ecological niche and distribution area concepts. We present a compilation and we propose a classification of the algorithms used in the process of niche modelling. We emphasize that each algorithm generates a representation of the ecological niche and there are not good or bad algorithms, but different representations. For this reason, it is necessary to understand how the algorithms work to have a better informed criterion of what is being used.
