Abstract

We report for the first time the West Coast Garter Snake (Thamnophis validus) for the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. This new record extends the known distribution of the species in over 360 kilometers and represents the southernmost record of its range. Several new records of rare or endemic species of snakes, like the one reported herein, have been obtained from the Pacific Coast in recent years suggesting that the region remains incompletely explored.
