Abstract

Altered ecological interactions between mutualistic microbes and hosts can lead to diseases, but understanding the interactions between the host, disease-causing microbes, and environment can contribute to strategies for disease prevention. The main objective of this work is to identify the microbial flora accompanying the skin of amphibians from the city of Benjamín Aceval, from skin swabs and microbiological, automated and biochemical techniques. A total of 40 skin swabs were collected corresponding to seven different species of amphibians. The results demonstrated the presence of the bacteria Aeromana hydrophila/punctata (caviae), Enterobacter cloacae complex, Citrobacter freundii, Vibrio vulnificus, Ochrbactrum antropi, Serratia fonticola, S. liquefaciens, and Klebsiella oxytoca. This work demonstrates the importance of analyzing and monitoring of free-living amphibians to avoid possible mass mortality crises and generate future management plans.
